Articling
Brown & Korte offers an articling program which involves two students each articling term. The purpose of the program is to mentor, train and educate young students-at-law to prepare them for private practice. As 5 of our current 12 lawyers are former articling students, it also provides an opportunity for both the student and the law firm to consider the possibilities of future employment.
The training at Brown & Korte includes practical training for students-at-law to see experienced counsel conduct trials, arbitrations, pre-hearings, pre-trials, mediations and examinations for discovery. The training also provides practical experience for students-at-law to prepare and attend on motions, prepare Affidavits of Documents and conduct legal research and all other aspects of the handling of a file.
Students are guided by the articling student committee whose mandate includes a requirement that the articling students attend with many of the senior lawyers in the firm to see how they conduct various aspects of litigation.
The partners and senior associates of the firm conduct “lunch and learn” seminars on a regular basis which include discussions regarding new law, amendments to the various Acts and Regulations as well as new procedures that must be followed when handling files on behalf of clients.
Brown & Korte also offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
At the end of their articles, the students generally consider themselves to have had a very sound, practical experience in litigation.
If any further information is required, please contact Ms. Jessica Green who is the Chair of the Articling Student Committee 2007 - 2008. As a former student, she will be very pleased to assist in any further questions you may have.
